The Best Executive MBA Programs

An Executive Mba program is an MBA program that is meant for executives with a number of years of real world experience. The experience that these professionals bring to their classes enriches the learning experience for all involved. These programs are usually designed so that they are held at times which allow the students to be able to continue working at their jobs full time.

A number of these programs have their classes during the weekends. Many times they also include some distance learning components. These programs are also usually accelerated in nature, allowing the students to complete them in a shorter time than they might otherwise be able to do. Usually the course work must be completed within two years.

For those looking for more information on the different options for an Executive Mba, there are a number of different rankings for these programs, with the final results chosen based on different criteria depending on who is doing the rankings. Two of the organizations that have ranked these programs are the Wall Street Journal and Business Week, both well respected business magazines. Although they didn't come up with the exact same results, it is interesting to note that both rank Northwestern University and the University of Pennsylvania as the number one and number two executive MBA programs. If it is possible for you to attend these schools, they would be your best choice.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the rest of the top ten Executive Mba programs are Thunderbird School of Global Management, University of Southern California, University of North Carolina, University of Michigan, Cornell University, Columbia University, University of Chicago, and Duke University. Most of these schools are well known and well respected overall. They are some of the top universities in the United States, so it is not surprising that they would also be at the top of the rankings in this area as well. The least well known school on the list is Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Business Week rounds out their top ten Executive Mba programs with those from University of Chicago, University of Michigan, University of North Carolina, Emory University, IMD, University of Southern California, Duke University, and Georgetown University. These are many of the same schools chosen by the Wall Street Journal.

If you can't attend one of the top two schools, it would be a good idea to check out the schools that appear on both lists. IMD is the only non-US school to make the top ten on either list, though there are a number of schools from other countries included in top 25 for each list.
